Program Modalities

12–Step Foundation

The 12–Step philosophy and fellowship, with its proven success in contributing to long–term recovery, is a cornerstone of the Turning Point program. It provides recovery principles and tools, as well as a local support network, for residents both during and following participation in the program.

Individual and Group Counseling

Residents receive a minimum of one hour of individual psychotherapy and a minimum of eight hours of group therapy each week. Sessions address such issues as ongoing recovery from addictions, relapse prevention, behavioral disorders, family and relationship issues, effective parenting, social and life skills, and anger management.

Mixed Martial Arts

Recently, experts have come forward in support of martial arts as a valuable tool for treating addiction. It is an effective method for dismantling compulsive behaviors and triggers, regaining physical health, achieving self–confidence, and learning physical and mental self–control.

Turning Point offers our residents regular training classes in Krav Maga – a popular form of mixed–martial arts. Originally developed by the Israel Defense Force, it is a hybrid of karate, wrestling, judo, jujitsu, boxing, and muay thai, and integrates instinct–based self–defense techniques with a curriculum designed to develop situational awareness, as well as verbal de–escalation of conflict.

Taught by Lee Zammarieh, a Level 2 Krav Maga instructor (and Turning Point’s resident Life Coach), residents learn to break down perceived limits, overcome adversity, develop a new found sense of self–respect and a higher level of self–confidence.

Music Therapy

We are a music–friendly program and offer a state–of–the–art music recording studio for our residents. As a result, Turning Point has become the place for recovering and aspiring musicians. Drum circles, jam sessions, slam poetry, and musical ensembles are all part of this healing program.

Life Coaching & Mentoring Program

Each of us wants to know with certainty that we can achieve positive outcomes and experience the level of fulfillment we truly desire and deserve. Our Life Coach and Mentoring program is designed to help our residents maximize their willpower and develop a positive mental attitude, empowering them to create new and improved thoughts, make better decisions, and take action.

By offering simple but effective tools during both group and individual sessions, the program guides residents on a journey of self–discovery that allows them to reach new heights and set new standards for their lives.

Recreational Therapy

Recreational activities are diversified and designed to build self–esteem and confidence in meeting the challenges residents will face when they enter the world outside of Turning Point without alcohol or drugs.

Activities include hiking, camping, boating, skiing, concerts, jam sessions in our recording studio, co–ed sober socials – even trips to the mall. These are opportunities for residents to apply sober living skills in a supportive environment and to reveal behavior patterns, beliefs, emotions, and core issues, which are brought back to group and individual settings for further exploration.

Health and Wellness Training

Our health and wellness activities are targeted to help build self–esteem and confidence in residents as they prepare for independent living and life after Turning Point. We offer yoga and guided meditations to quiet the mind and a gym membership for conditioning of the body.
