
The Extended Care program is designed to expose the resident to the “real world” gradually, as coping skills and recovery tools develop to withstand the people, places and things that trigger reactions and cravings. It combines a supportive residential community with the experience of professional counselors, instructors, recovering staff and volunteers.
Days are structured with 12–step meetings, individual and group therapy sessions, workshops, support groups, basic living skills, health and wellness training and recreational activities. Residents have set recovery plans, goals and increasing levels of responsibility and unsupervised activities. Within 30 to 60 days, the resident is actively working a 12–step program, seeking employment and/or exploring educational opportunities, and receiving home passes to re–integrate with family.
With gradually less intense levels of supervision and increasing levels of responsibility and self–sufficiency, the program provides residents with the time to put into practice their new recovery skills and develop a deeper understanding of what they need to do to recover from their alcohol or drug addiction.
